Reducing Aches and Pains

Muscle and joint pain often accompany under active thyroid. Pain on waking, pain during the day, pain at night. Pain can be a constant companion and it is tiring. How can you help yourself with this?

Pain killers such as ibuprofen and paracetamol have a limited effect. If used over a long period of time, they lose their effectiveness and can actually start causing pain. So what can you do?

Gentle movement and stretching can help relieve aches and pains and help the body relax. Start small and remember to do a few stretches and move a little throughout the day. Go with what you can do, not what someone else is doing. Listen to your body. If anything causes more pain, stop and try something else.

Meditation and self hypnosis can help. Taking the mind off the pain and focus on something else gives relief from pain. Practicing 10 minutes of meditation a day can ease pain and bring other benefits, such as feeling calmer, clarity of thinking and so on. There are lots of different types of meditation and lots of apps and websites providing guided meditations. Spend a bit of time finding one or two that you like.

Massage can be really helpful with pain. Moving the muscles and helping them release tension can have a lovely relaxing effect.

It may be worth seeing an osteopath, chiropractor or physiotherapist to check that the body is in proper alinement and is working the way it should. Sometimes pain is caused by the body not moving correctly or muscles being out of balance. An osteopath, chiropractor or physiotherapist will be able to identify any problems and guide you back to balance and less pain.

Homeopathy can also help and can have quick results. Clients have found their aches and pains have reduced soon after starting homeopathic treatment.
